NATO Exercise Dynamic Manta 2019: Group sail

27 Feb 2019 15:03

NATO’s anti-submarine warfare (ASW) exercise Dynamic Manta 2019 began its practical phase off the coast of Sicily on 25 February. The exercise involved ships, submarines, aircraft and personnel from 10 Allied nations including: Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States. The exercise began with a formation or group sail with many of the surface, air and submarine assets practising various formations and manoeuvers in the Mediterranean while hosting distinguished visitors (DV) and civilian media. The DV day culminated in a photo exercise where the ASW assets were put on display for aerial photographers. The exercise continues for several weeks with the aim to provide participants with complex and challenging warfare training to enhance their interoperability and proficiency in the anti-submarine and anti-surface maritime warfare domains.

Dynamic Manta 2019 brings together 10 NATO Allies to practise the complex task of anti-submarine warfare.
